Career Paths for Dietitians at Aramark

To highlight the variety of paths you can pursue here at Aramark, we spoke with four of our Dietitians to hear their personal success stories. Check out their interviews below!

Nakia Spencer, MBA, RDN, LD - National Director of Clinical Nutrition

With a Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, Nakia (she/her) started her career with clinical dietitian roles at both Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center and Vanderbilt University Medical Center. After obtaining her Masters Degree, Nakia started her management career with Aramark as an Assistant Director of Patient Services and was promoted to General Manager of a 1200 bed teaching facility.

 

From there, she moved up to Aramark’s Field Channel team, Brand Management team, and in February of this year, she was promoted yet again to the National Director of Clinical Nutrition for Healthcare. In her current role, she leads a team of directors that create and deploy the training, tools and resources utilized by RDNs in acute care settings across Aramark.

Derek Slavin, MPH, RD, LDN - Clinical Nutrition Manager

Derek Slavin (he/him) received his Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from NC State University and his Master of Public Health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He joined Aramark in 2003 and has over 18 years of Healthcare Hospitality experience serving in roles of increasing responsibility within operations and strategic development.

 

Recognized as a healthcare leader, Derek is a Registered Dietitian and has extensive experience managing the dynamic landscape of large academic medical centers leveraging relationships to strengthen and grow the Aramark brand.

Michaelann Hahn, MCN, RD, LD, CNSC, Clinical Dietitian Specialist

Michaelann (she/her) obtained her Bachelor of Science degree with a focus in Nutrition and Dietetics at Auburn University, followed by a Dietetic Internship at Baylor University Medical Center. While obtaining her Master of Clinical Nutrition degree at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, she started working as pro re nata clinical dietitian with Aramark at Baylor University Medical Center. Michaelann moved into a full-time position as a Clinical Dietitian 1 towards the end of her master’s program.

 

Shortly after, she obtained her Certified Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC) credential, allowing her to advance into her current title with Aramark: Clinical Dietitian Specialist. Currently, she focuses on providing individualized nutrition support to patients admitted to a Level 1 trauma intensive care unit. Additionally, she is actively pursuing her Doctor of Clinical Nutrition degree from Rutgers University.

Jane Cook, MHA, RD - General Manager

Jane Cook (she/her) earned her BS in Dietetics from the University of Maryland in 2011. She completed her dietetic internship at Aramark in Los Angeles, CA earning her Registered Dietitian credential. Jane completed her internship and then officially started her career with Aramark as a Patient Services Manager in the west region in 2013.

 

She has had a progressive career in healthcare nutrition management that has led to her current position as the General Manager at Baylor Scott & White Health at All Saints Medical Center. She most recently earned her Master of Healthcare Administration in June 2020. Jane is passionate about creating a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and development of foodservice leaders to elevate the role of nutrition in healthcare.

Aramark chefs participated in an #Indigenous culinary training, students tasted authentic Indigenous recipes in the dining hall, and students and staff learned about the importance of revitalizing Indigenous food systems and developing a greater understanding of the teachings that define them. ⁣
