Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Previous experience as a refrigeration technician.
  • HVAC certification.
  • Universal EPA certification.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and industry safety requirements.
  • Skilled in brazing and soldering.
  • Familiarity with local building codes.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and compliance schematics.
  • Advanced mechanical and diagnostic skills.
  • Good communication and customer service skills.
  • Professional demeanor and a positive, caring attitude.
  • Ability to work independently without supervision.
  • Physically fit and capable of lifting heavy equipment.
  • Clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass a drug screen and background check.
  • Ability to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions.

Job Description and Responsibilities

Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced Dining Maintenance Technician with a North Carolina Refrigeration licensed in North Carolina to join the Dining Services Tech team. The successful candidate will be responsible for processing and completing work orders, installing & repairing Campus Dining refrigeration equipment, troubleshooting mechanical failures, and performing maintenance on dining services equipment. This role also involves advising ECU Dining Services clients on equipment upgrades and alternate cooling units.

The primary duty of this position is to perform skilled work required to disassemble damaged or worn kitchen equipment on site or in a designated area; carries out repair and rebuild operations such as rewiring, replacing bearings, bushings, brushes and centrifugal or on-off switches. Performs the maintenance and repair of a variety of electrical appliances, tools and other equipment as assigned; maintains and repairs a variety of major appliances and related equipment in dining locations such as ovens, food mixers, salad cutters; food carriers, compactors, electric ranges, dishwashers, scales, steamers, food fryers, steam kettles, steam tables, bakery ovens, warmers and other parts and components as necessary. This position includes Diagnosing defects and makes minor or major repairs on refrigeration units, both large and small units and any equipment requiring Freon.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process and complete work orders.
  • Install refrigeration units, and beverage equipment.
  • Observe and test newly installed systems to ensure proper function.
  • Troubleshoot refrigeration equipment failures and perform necessary repairs.
  • Maintain adequate stock levels of parts and supplies.
  • Replace worn seals, outer shells, and worn-out motors.
  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain refrigeration systems and related controls.
  • Service and maintain commercial refrigeration equipment, such as cooler display cases, reach-ins, walk-in boxes, and ice machines.
