Flatwater Kayak & Stand-Up Paddleboard (SUP) Guide- Adventures on the Gorge- Seasonal

Job Description

Adventures on the Gorge is seeking enthusiastic and reliable Flatwater Kayak & Stand-Up Paddleboard (SUP) Guides to lead recreational paddling experiences at Summersville Lake State Park and Hawks Nest State Park. This position focuses on providing safe, educational, and memorable flatwater paddling experiences for guests of all ages and skill levels while representing Adventures on the Gorge with professionalism and a strong commitment to safety. 

Job Responsibilities

• Lead guided flatwater kayak and paddleboard trips for individuals, families, and groups 
• Provide clear safety briefings and paddling instruction suited to beginner and intermediate participants 
• Assist guests with equipment fitting, boat launching, landing, and basic paddling skills 
• Monitor weather, water conditions, and participant ability to ensure a safe experience 
• Enforce safety standards and operating procedures for flatwater activities 
• Perform basic equipment inspection, cleaning, and minor maintenance 
• Provide excellent customer service and create a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere 
• Assist with loading, unloading, and transporting kayaks, paddleboards, and related gear 
• Respond appropriately to minor emergencies and follow established incident response protocols 
• Represent Adventures on the Gorge positively while working within state park environments

Qualifications

• Minimum age: 18 years old 
• Ability to swim confidently and remain calm in water-based environments 
• First Aid and CPR certification 
• Flatwater kayaking and stand-up paddleboard experience preferred but not required 
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills 
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions 
• Dependable, punctual, and team-oriented 
• Ability to lift and carry equipment weighing up to approximately 50 lbs 
• Work is primarily outdoors on and near the water 
• Prior experience guiding or instructing paddling activities preferred
• Must be available to work flexible hours

This role may have physical demands including, but not limited to, lifting, bending, pushing, pulling and/or extended walking and standing. This role may also require uniforms and/or usage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
