VP & Assistant General Counsel, U.S. Sector

Job Description

Aramark is seeking a VP & Assistant General Counsel to join the U.S. commercial legal team for the Corrections line of business.  The position reports to the SVP & Deputy General Counsel, U.S. Sector, and is based at Aramark HQ in Philadelphia.  

Job Responsibilities

• Trusted Partner:  Serve as a member of the senior leadership team of one or more assigned business unit(s).   Sought out to provide sound advice on strategic, business and legal topics, including sales strategy, regulatory issues, strategic partnerships, contract interpretation questions, risk considerations, and commercial disputes.  Collaborate with business and functional leadership to ensure satisfaction with nature and degree of legal support.    
• Team:  Manage, develop and inspire a team of attorneys and other legal professionals.  Ensure excellence of team’s deliverables and support through delegation, prioritization, and coaching.
• Commercial Legal Strategy and Support:   Accountable for effective handling of complex matters, including negotiation of complex commercial agreements, managing disputes and litigation, and providing legal support for M&A activity or other strategic partnerships.  Manage contracting process and appropriate review of requests for proposals and bid responses. Oversee outside counsel and manage outside counsel spend.  Handle emergent and high-profile matters with minimal supervision.  
• Leadership and Culture:  Operate with a management mindset to influence business outcomes.  Identify and lead impactful projects and initiatives.  Model ownership and accountability. Provide input on US legal strategy.   Promote a culture of trusted hospitality.    
• Travel: As needed (~15%) for in-person negotiations, trainings, and leadership meetings.

Qualifications

•  Educational background:  Excellent academic credentials and J.D. required. Active law license in PA or ability to become licensed in PA. 
•  Experience: At least 10 years of experience at a sophisticated law firm or corporate legal department, including experience working on complex commercial agreements, advising senior level clients, and leading a team.  Hospitality experience (in any capacity) a plus.    
•  Skills:  Excellent judgment and strategic thinker.  Distills complex issues and knows how and when to communicate.  Strong negotiator and consensus-builder.  Effectively delegates, prioritizes, and manages expectations.  Leads in a manner that inspires focus, action, and loyalty in team members.  Willingness and ability to make difficult decisions regarding legal, business, and managerial issues. 
•  Characteristics:  Strong executive presence, business acumen, and ability to build trusting relationships at all levels.  Exudes both confidence and a willingness to hear new ideas.  Models and encourages a calm “glass half full” mindset when faced with curve balls and multiple priorities.  Proactive, responsive, and brings a sense of purpose and urgency.  Open to feedback and opportunities to grow.  Embraces innovation and Aramark’s hospitality culture.
