Position Summary: Provides skilled work required to safely and reliably operate, service, maintain and repair all systems on a college campus with particular emphasis on plumbing systems.

Duties and responsibilities:
  • Inspects assigned buildings on a routine basis and performs maintenance where necessary while keeping facilities in serviceable condition.
  • Reports identified maintenance needs to service response department for referral to shop-crafts or other corrective actions as necessary.
  • Performs operations/repairs on valves, faucets, drinking fountains, hot water heaters, urinals, toilets, clearing drains, and other work as assigned.
  • Repair and/or replace domestic, hot water, and sewer lines.
  • Must be able to sweat copper pipes/fixtures and use pro-press equipment
  • Repairs various fixtures, hardware, and facilities as required such as door locks and hardware, broken window panes, minor plumbing, HVAC calls, minor electrical circuits and appliances, faucets and valves, shower grouting, floor and ceiling tiles, and other necessary maintenance duties.
  • Maintain plumbing inventory, tools, and test equipment.
  • Attention to detail is required.
  • Must be able to interact and possess communication skills with individuals at all levels of organization, as well as clients, vendors, and sub-contractors.
  • Must be able to lift or move heavy objects up to 50lbs and must be able to stand and work as long as 12 hours in different positions.
  • Ensure work areas are left clean and safe upon completion of work.
  • Performs assigned chemical tests of various water sources, documents results, and makes adjustments in accordance with assigned procedures.
  • Position will require working some weekends on a rotational basis
  • Assist other departments in other duties as assigned.


Minimum Education Required: High School graduate or equivalent.  Formal vocational education/training in operations and maintenance of boilers, chillers, turbines, generators or control systems is desired.


Minimum Experience Required: Four (4) years training/job experience operating and maintaining pumps, cooling towers, boilers, chillers, turbines, generators or control systems.


Minimum Skills/Aptitudes Required:


Physical Standards:  Full range mobility outdoors, indoors and in confining areas, using stairs, ramps or ladders.  Manual dexterity with power and hand tools.  Visual acuity.  Must be able to stand and work as long as 12 hours in different positions.  Handle 40-60 pound bags of salt for storage and replacement of salt levels in brine tanks.  Handles 30-45 gallon barrels of soap and lubricants for storage and use in various equipment.
