Carolina Dining Services Nutrition Program
Position Title: Nutrition Intern
Reports To: Registered Dietitian
Assists the department in the nutritional aspects of preparation for campus programs, events, and tablings, and customer meal service through accurate menu scheduling and recipe analysis.
Essential Position Duties and Responsibilities:
Solves customer problems, treats customer with dignity and respect. Acknowledges customer and responds quickly to customer needs. All customers, students, parents, visitors, volunteers, and co-workers will be given prompt and courteous attention. Telephone courtesy and customer confidentiality, as it related to personal health conditions, must be maintained at all times. When completing telephone calls, refer to the “CDS Marketing Office Phone Guide” for appropriate greeting and content. Answer questions within your scope of practice and refer other questions to the appropriate person.
Ethics and Compliance
Conduct demonstrates compliance with and reporting of suspected violations of all relevant laws, regulations compliance policies and procedures, and the Code of Conduct. Refer to Human Resources for detailed policies and procedures.
Position Competency Skills
Demonstrates the knowledge necessary to discuss and promote basic, healthy eating behaviors.
Demonstrates age appropriate communication skills for the customer population served.
Provides assistance with the planning and development of program materials.
Perform all work in a safe and sanitary manner.
Maintain all workstations in a neat and organized manner.
Respond and cooperate with changes in workload.
Participates in on-boarding trainings and any other necessary safety and occupational trainings required by Aramark.
Education Required: Junior or senior undergraduate in the UNC School of Public Health Nutrition Program (BSPH)
Preferred: Graduate student in the UNC School of Public Health Nutrition Program (MPH)
Related experience or education demonstrating knowledge of basic nutrition and healthy eating, and nutritional/allergen information
Knowledge and Skills
Basic typing and computer skills, and knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Publisher
Excellent verbal communication skills and necessary business acumen
Strong leadership skills
Ability to work independently and complete assignments in a timely manner
Must be able to stand for long periods of time (up to 2 hours).
Must be able to sit for long periods of time (up to 6 hours).
Computer, calculator, writing utensils, telephone and answering machine, printer and copy machine with scanner, files, scissors.
