General Responsibilities for Lunchroom/Recess Monitor:

  •  Supervision of students in the cafeteria during lunch services.
  • Supervision of students outside on playground areas.
  •  Monitoring/controlling of noise level within the cafeteria.
  •  Monitoring/controlling behavior of students during lunch services.
  • If appropriate refer students to the appropriate personnel should disciplinary action be necessary.
  • Help students open containers/packages that they may be unable to open themselves.
  •  Wipe down tables and monitor/help students clean up their individual areas.
  • Sweep up floor areas that may have debris.
  •  Monitor floors for any spills, and clean up immediately in order to avoid any falls from occurring.
  • Promote good public relations.
  • Attend in-service meeting as scheduled by the General Manager/Lead.
  •  Adhere to the uniform policy as set by General Manager.
  • Other duties as assigned. 
  •  May need to travel to other schools within our District when needed.
  • Assist custodial staff when needed.
  • Assist with serving students when needed.



  • Skillfully use hand tools needed for your work (i.e. broom, whistle, etc).
  • Accept responsibility for the conduct of the lunch period and safety of the students.
  •  Must be able to appropriately interact with children.
  • Must be able to speak clearly and appropriately with children. 


Environmental Conditions:

Inside Job and Outside (defined as spending approximately 50% or more of the time inside and 50% or more of the time outside).
Temperature Changes: Variations in temperature, which are sufficiently marked and abrupt.



  • Must have developed language skills to the point to be able to:
  • Write sentences, using clear handwriting, with proper end punctuation and employing adjectives and adverbs.
  •  Speak clearly and distinctly with proper pauses, emphasis and correct pronunciation.
  • ***Required to complete and pass a drug test, background check and fingerprinting.

    (No food service responsibilities are required for this position.)
